Big City Mountaineers Summit for Someone

Denver, CO, November 16, 2009 — Participants in Backpacker Magazine's Summit For Someone mountaineering fundraiser will have one more incentive this year: a chance to win round-trip airfare to their climb, courtesy of Summit for Someone sponsor Mountain Gear.

Summit For Someone climbers raise a minimum of $2,900 for 501(c)3 nonprofit Big City Mountaineers to help with BCM's mission of, "enhancing the lives of under-resourced urban teens through transformative outdoor experiences." In 2009, Summit For Someone climbers raised more than $400,000 for BCM's summer programs, which provided a total of 2,675 program days for urban teens in Colorado, California, Chicago, Minneapolis and the Pacific Northwest.

In the 2010 promotion made possible by Mountain Gear, the first six Summit For Someone climbers to raise more than $1,000 over the fundraising goal for their climb will receive a coupon for round-trip airfare for any Southwest Airlines flight in the continental United States.

Backpacker Magazine's Summit For Someone™ benefit climbs are Big City Mountaineers' primary fundraising program, in which individuals raise funds and go on a guided mountaineering trip on one of North America's most sought-after peaks. The funds raised from one participant's Summit For Someone climb are enough to fully sponsor five teens and a youth agency leader for the summer outdoor youth mentoring program.
