According to the
2011 Physical Activity Council Topline Report, more than 60 million people in the U.S. are totally inactive. With all the publicity and attention being paid to the current obesity crisis in the U.S., the need to get people away from their computer screens and television sets in order to get more active has never been more important.
The Physical Activity Council (PAC) is the partnership behind The Outdoor Foundation's annual participation report, the country's largest and most comprehensive study on sports and recreational habits for all Americans ages six and older. The Physical Activity Council is made up of seven of the leading organizations responsible for encouraging participation in 119 different sports, fitness and recreational activities: The Outdoor Foundation, National Golf Foundation (NGF), Snowsports Industries America (SIA), Tennis Industry Association (TIA), United States Tennis Association (USTA), International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA).
This report summarizes the general findings, observations and insights from nearly 40,000 online interviews. The Outdoor Foundation will release a more detailed report on outdoor participation in the coming weeks. For more information on the PAC please visit
