This year 41,778 Americans (including 26,542 youth) in every state set up camp in their communities to enjoy an evening under the stars. The 2007 GABC benefited from impressive outdoor industry support in 2007. 193 outdoor specialty retailers and outdoor industry manufacturers signed up as GABC partners and well over 200 outdoor industry companies participated in GABC events around the country. The Great American Backyard Campout Toolkit
The GABC is a turn-key program and a fantastic opportunity to connect Americans with the outdoors, position your business as a community resource and create a new generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
The retailer toolkit gives retailers everything they need to get their store and customers involved in the GABC. Manufacturers are invited to download a toolkit to recruit retailers and to encourage staff participation. The GABC is a great opportunity for the entire outdoor industry!

Two Retailers Share their Rewarding GABC Experiences
If the experiences of two retailers – Pack Rat Outdoor and Mast General Store - are any indication, this year’s GABC will be a great success!
2006 Case Study: Pack Rat Outdoor
In Arkansas, Pack Rat Outdoor advertised the GABC with OIF’s posters and bag stuffers and organized an employee, friends and family campout in a field behind their store. Pack Rat used this year’s employee campout as a test run for a store sponsored customer campout planned next year. Pack Rat Outdoor believes the GABC is a great opportunity for one-on-one time with customers, reaching out to new and marginal customers, and benefiting from free advertising. Read More...
2006 Case Study: Mast General Store
Mast General Store, with store fronts in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to participate in the GABC. They distributed posters, bag stuffers, and informational handouts, released GABC press releases in all of their markets, included the GABC in their store newsletter and local advertisements, and put together fun, in-store camping displays. “The Great American Backyard Campout is a great event for the industry,” Sheri Moretz, Mast General Store’s Public Relations Specialist said. “We can’t wait to get involved next year!” Read More...
